Alpha is course for those who are looking to find out more about the Christian faith. It’s fun, there’s food and it’s a great way to meet new people!

It meets once a week for nine weeks, on a Tuesday evening.

A typical meeting will start with everyone enjoying a meal together. This is then followed by a talk concerning some aspect of what it means to be a Christian. The remainder of the time is then spent in small groups, discussing issues arising from the talk, or any other queries that you may have.

Who is Alpha For? Alpha is for everyone! The course is particularly suitable for:

• People interested in investigating the claims of Christianity
• Newcomers to the church
• New Christians, old or young
• Those who wish to 'brush up' on the basics

The course is centred around a series of talks, looking at such topics as: Who is Jesus? Why did Jesus die? How can I be sure? Why and how should I read the Bible? Why and how should I pray? What about the Holy Spirit? Does God heal today? What about the Church?

After each talk there is ample opportunity to discuss any issues or questions that you might have. This takes place in small groups, giving people an opportunity to get to know each other and to learn together.

If you have even the slightest whiff of interest or curiosity or need a question answering then go, your bit is to turn up, get in the room… God can do the rest... I know this to be true because if he can do it with me he can do it with anyone… and I was absolutely definitely not EVER going to be a Christian... Once I joined the alpha course, reluctantly might I add! It made me think about life seriously and where I was making big mistakes, I started to look at everything completely different, good and bad, I can honestly say doing the alpha course has changed me from within, and just when I think life cant get any better! I was asked along to an Alpha course by a friend who had recently lost someone; unfortunately my friend didn’t finish the course. I kept going as by then I’d met some lovely people and made new friends, the food was good to. Life wasn’t to great at the time, a lady at Alpha told me to pray about things, well that night I did, gave all my worries and troubles to god, slept like a log that night! Alpha and the advice from that lady was the best thing that I ever did and listened to! God has changed my Life!! Lorraine
 
My wife went on an Alpha course, which ended in her becoming a Christian. I had met plenty of Christians but never seen a person evolve into one. They said it was my turn to go on an Alpha course and I thought "Yes by the time I've finished with them they will all be down the pub denouncing there was a God" I went and met these wonderful genuine kind hearted people who would not judge me but just loved me. Try as I could with nasty and awkward questions they would never get angry or upset with me. I didn't know it at the time but my heart was starting to soften to this person called Jesus who I was so ignorant about. On the Holy Spirit day I was filled with God's love, I was set free, free to cry as a man and not to feel ashamed. I am now a new man! - Phil
 
A removal man who was a pastor of a local church invited me to the Alpha course so I thought I'd give it a try. I didn't know anyone and felt quite nervous but as soon as I arrived I was given a warm welcome and a delicious home cooked meal. I felt so loved and looked forward to the meeting every week. I had never taken the bible seriously before and really enjoyed reading it, asking questions and having discussions which made Jesus become more real to me. On the 3rd week I said a prayer and made a commitment to Christ, since that night my life has been transformed. I now know that God really loves me and this has given me hope and a new purpose in my life - Jane
 
Alpha has changed my life; I had been invited to Alpha a number of times and went along to see what it was all about. The Alpha leaders were patient and kind and did their best to answer all of our questions. Over the weeks as I learned more, I understood and understood all God has done for us. I went along to an alpha course originally to spend time with my mum because we had had a very rocky past with each other. It actually turned out that I would do the course twice and I loved every minute of it. I met a good few people I never would have known otherwise and found out the answer to many of those questions you always ask about God growing up. You might call me an Alpha addict! I became a Christian before I even knew of Alpha but once I found an eager and exciting audience who were just as keen as me to know and learn more the questions were endless! The answers? Wow! They ranged from mind blowing, intriguing, and just deepened my curiosity more. I always kind of believed there was a God, but never understood how he worked and only thought that faith meant, belonging to some kind of religion. After having some disastrous relationships, I thought I was being punished for something, which led me to ALPHA. I've always known about Heaven, earth and hell, but I didn't know anything about the purposes of the people in those places. The Alpha course gave me a chance to explore for myself the questions that caused the doubts and misunderstandings of what I thought Christianity was all about. Alpha gave me a place where I could put my thoughts out there, ask questions, get answers and make new friends. It was a great space for me to explore what I truly believed and to begin to understand other people’s points of view.
