At King’s Arms we are passionate about helping people be part of a family and enabling them to discover their calling. We love to see people grow in their character and connection with God as well as fulfill what God has called them to do. As we learnt more about discipleship and about getting a healthy rhythm of “up, in and out” in our lives and groups, we started a journey of looking at starting Missional Communities at King’s Arms.
Missional Communities are centred around mission and started by someone asking “What is God saying to me and what am I going to do about it?” Whatever God is speaking to a person about or putting on someone’s heart could be a Missional Community! A group then gather around the mission and connect to one another and the leaders through a strong foundation of discipleship and connection with God.
God exceeds our expectations
We started with two groups. One wanted to impact and bless the lonely in Bedford, so they started meeting in a pub and build relationships with those there. The other wanted to make a difference to the men in HM Prison Bedford. As I have seen these two groups grow as well as more pilot groups start, I have been amazed to see God doing incredible things and impacting the community around us.
Another group called C’est La Vie started in September with the aim of reaching out to French-speaking people in Bedford and wants to see them impacted by the love of Jesus. They had their first meal together a few weeks ago and had six new people come along. They got to build relationship and share love with six people who wouldn’t normally come to church! God blew their expectation out of the water.
One of our groups, Rough to Reign, reaches out to a whole range of people who wouldn’t typically find a home in church groups. They have already seen five people give their lives to Jesus since the group began in September. God is on the move!
Go make disciples
When Jesus said “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), I often thought this just applied to the evangelists and missionaries going to other countries. But there are many people in our nation, in our towns, in our neighbourhoods and down our streets that have yet to learn God’s love for them and His invitation to come into relationship with Him.
He wants to use us – every one of us – to share the good news we have experienced and encountered with those around us. We are called to get out and impact the community and practically demonstrate that God is love and one who is desperately seeking to bring those who don’t know Him into family. We may not feel equipped or qualified, but God gives us all we need to complete what He asks us to do. When we live out our callings through a group like a Missional Community, we get to encourage and be encouraged to be all that God has created us to be.
What does this mean for me?
Whatever area or people group you want to impact, there are probably other people in your area with the same passion who could join with you and impact your town – whether you attend King’s Arms or somewhere else! It’s exciting to do what God has made us to do, so let’s discover our callings, go deeper in relationship with God and mobilise an army to advance the kingdom of God in Bedford!
